Field Director — Santa Fe, New Mexico

Tierra is seeking a motivated and experienced archaeologist/cultural resources manager who can fulfill the duties of Field Director in our Santa Fe office. The successful candidate must be a team player. They must have the ability to multi-task, including supervising multiple small surveys and/or monitoring projects concurrently. Experience directing large block surveys as well as testing and data recovery investigations is also desired. The successful candidate must meet the qualifications necessary to be listed in Tierra’s cultural resource investigation permits for the City of Santa Fe, State of New Mexico, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and other Federal agencies. The candidates must have knowledge of the literature and practice of prehistoric and historical archaeology in the American Southwest. The position may involve some travel, and a current valid driver’s license is required. The successful candidate must be a United States citizen or hold a Federally approved work visa.

Duties Include:

  • Directing fieldwork.
  • Staffing and scheduling assistance.
  • Writing reports and preparing forms to pertinent agency standards.
  • Delegating tasks to junior staff.
  • Problem resolution in field and office settings.
  • Training archaeological technicians in field methods, preparation of forms, and report writing.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of literature and professional reports.
  • Assisting in the preparation of scopes of work and budgets for proposals.
  • Analyzing collections of cultural materials that fall within your particular analytic specialty.
